DARLENE SHRUGG

I was in a band called Tropics for 10 years. We were a duo who played what might be graciously called 'art punk' music. We released a single 45rpm single in that span (there was also a cassette, but cassette's feel like they don't count as much, even though they do - or can). Maybe two or three other people will tell you that there were CD-R's as well - ignore them (please).

In any case, we quietly broke up by not playing shows or writing new songs anymore. But we still liked each other, Simone and I.

So now we are a different band. This band is called Darlene Shrugg. This band is for recording. We have ambitions to make records. We have broadened our collaboration to include more people, and more sounds... But we're simpler now, and older too.

We're playing our first show this coming Valentines day. Our band at present includes the two women who make up Ice Cream, as well as the U.S. Girl (who also writes our lyrics). We might be summed up as a rock band, somewhat broadly (but not too broadly).

The show is at Double Double Land, it's $2 and features not just Darlene Shrugg but a DJ'd Yoko Ono retrospective.
